Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in technology, engineering, chemistry, or physics (with a minimum of eight hours of Chemistry) AND one year of full-time experience in testing, designing, maintaining, and repairing solid state electronic instruments including micro-processor based devices;
OR:
Sixty college credit hours in the field of electronics and three years full-time experience in electronic troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and design of solid state electronic instruments, including at least one year with micro-computer instruments (at least eight of those credit hours must be in Chemistry).
Promotional Qualifications: Two years of experience as a Highway Safety Equipment Technician 1, and eight college credit hours in chemistry.
Duties Description The Highway Safety Equipment Technician 2 works under the direction of, and provides assistance to, the Highway Safety Equipment Technical Supervisor and is responsible for the design, implementation and management of all facets of the parts, tools and test equipment procurement and certification program for the Highway Safety Technology Unit (HSTU). This will require that the incumbent design a system that will determine and track parts levels, inventories, and certification schedules to insure that repair parts and consumables are readily available to the technical staff.
Responsible for the design, implementation and management of all facets of the DataMaster return program in accordance with the stipulated requirements under the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC) funded Breath Analysis Instrumentation-Next Generation Grant. Incumbent will be required to design a system that will effectively document and track the return and refurbishment/disassembly of all 472 DataMaster, evidential breath test devices in accordance with grant requirements.
The Highway Safety Equipment Technician 2 will be responsible for supervision of Highway Safety Equipment Technician(s) 1 and will provide formal training on the use, maintenance and certification of evidential alcohol and speed measuring devices to new employees. The incumbent will produce or procure appropriate manuals and training aids and the verification of proficiency to insure that trainees are familiar with all aspects of the repair/certification process. Incumbent must insure that all new employees gain the appropriate training and certifications required under state regulation. Informal operator field training on these devices will also be provided as necessary.
Responsible for the management of the DataMaster and Datamaster DMT Remote Certification Program, including updating, revising, and documenting all procedures used during this process, as well as the timely scheduling and implementation of the remote certification of all evidential DataMasters and DMTs in use across New York State.
Manage the HSTU Health and Safety Program, with responsibility for ensuring that a Health and Safety Program is implemented and followed at all times by all staff, including periodic staff training, records management, and audits.
