Minimum Qualifications FOR PERMANENT APPOINTMENT: Candidates must currently be a Senior Training Technician (Police), SG-18; or be reachable on the eligible list for this title; or have one year of permanent, competitive service in a title SG-16 or higher and otherwise be eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 or 70.4 of Civil Service Law. FOR PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT: You must have Either 1. a bachelor's degree AND three years of qualifying experience;* Or 2. an associate's degree AND five years of qualifying experience.*
* Qualifying experience is defined as police officer experience in a local or state law enforcement/criminal justice agency. You must have been responsible for the prevention or detection of crime and the enforcement of criminal laws. Investigative experience gained outside a law enforcement agency is NOT qualifying experience.

If appointed provisionally, you must take the next examination for this title. In order to remain in this position, your exam score must be high enough to qualify you as one of the top three acceptors on the eligible list.

Duties Description The Division of Criminal Justice Services is recruiting for a Senior Training Technician (Police) in the Security Guard Unit of the Office of Public Safety (OPS). The incumbent will review and approve security guard school and instructor applications for the purpose of providing mandated security guard training; review and approve security guard school curricula to ensure compliance with Program rules and regulations; conduct site inspections of security guard schools to determine compliance with Program rules and regulations; conduct inquiries of schools and instructors concerning non-compliance with rules and regulations; conduct training for school applicants; assist with the design, development, evaluation and administration of security guard training programs; and report regularly through written and oral communications to the Unit Supervisor on assignments. Incumbent may also be called upon to facilitate mandated and selected non-mandated law enforcement training within the State. This may include reviewing incoming requests for information, making field visits to local law enforcement agencies to provide information and determine training needs of departments, preparing materials for program presentations, making and confirming arrangements for training, monitoring course administration, and assisting in developing and revising courses as necessary. The incumbent may be transferred within other OPS units if organizational needs dictate.
