Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have one year of permanent non-competitive or 55b/c service as a Senior Professional Conduct Investigator OR have nine years of experience in the investigation of complex cases leading to criminal trial and administrative proceedings, which must include conducting investigations and interrogations, writing reports on assignments and testifying at administrative hearings or criminal trials. A Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, police science or a closely related field may be substituted for up to four years of experience.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Professional Discipline is seeking to fill a Supervising Professional Conduct Investigator in its Brooklyn Office. The incumbent will work under the direction of the Principal Professional Conduct Investigator and will supervise and direct Senior Professional Conduct Investigators in the investigation of allegations of violations of statutes, rules, or regulations by licensed professionals; unlawful practice of a profession by an unlicensed person; the moral character of a person seeking licensure; or the background of formerly licensed professionals who are seeking reinstatement of their professional license. The incumbent will also be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timely submission of required reports, and for administrative tasks as assigned. Major responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Assign cases and assist in the development of an overall plan for the conduct of investigations;
• Evaluate information gathered in all phases of investigations to determine the scope or direction of the investigations; and
• Make recommendations to the Principal Professional Conduct Investigator for case disposition.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent-permanent, non-competitive appointment. Filling of this position is contingent upon Division of the Budget approval.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $85,635 based on annual performance advances.
**Plus $3,026 annual downstate location.
