Minimum Qualifications This position may be filled on a permanent or provisional basis.

Permanent appointment:
Eligible to transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Individual must have one year of permanent or contingent permanent competitive service as a Librarian 1, Librarian 2, Senior Librarian or Senior Librarian (Law).

Provisional appointment:

Librarian 1 ($44,370-56,567) You must have a Master's degree in Library Science (MLS).*
Librarian 2 ($49,488-63,001) - An MLS* and one year of post MLS professional librarian experience.
Senior Librarian - Librarian 1 – An (MLS)* and two years of post MLS professional librarian experience.

*NOTES:

1. A master of science in information science, with a concentration in archives administration or library services, is qualifying; but a master's degree in computer science is not qualifying.

2. New York State residence is not required.

3. Your degree and/or college credit must have been awarded by a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the NYS Education Department as following acceptable educational practices. If your degree and/or college credit was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification or equivalency. You can write to the Examination Information Desk of the Department of Civil Service for a list of acceptable companies who provide this service. This information is also available at http://www.cs.ny.gov/jobseeker/degrees.cfm. You must pay the required evaluation fee.

Duties Description Reference

•Provide legal and general research, reference and referral support to OAG staff; provide front line reference support on a daily basis;
•Schedule instruction sessions for OAG staff in the efficient use of legal information sources;
•Promote the library’s resources and services by creating content for the library’s intranet site;
•Assist in the training and supervision of the library student aide;
•Manage the preservation of fragile historical materials;
•Perform other functions as necessary or assigned.

Acquisitions

•Manage the approval and selection plans, firm orders, blanket orders, and demand-driven acquisition for the entire OAG;
•Communicate with external providers including publishers, vendors and technology providers;
•Serve as a resource for the OAG on acquisition-related functions;
•Perform selected serials control functions;
•Facilitate the management of all donated items;
•Perform other related functions as assigned.

Additional Comments If appointed as a Librarian 1: Upon satisfactory completion of 52 weeks as a Librarian 1, you would be advanced to Librarian 2 (current salary $49,488).
If appointed as a Librarian 2: After completing 52 weeks of satisfactory service as a Librarian 2, you would be advanced to Senior Librarian with a minimum salary of (currently) $55,126.

Salary range of Senior Librarian: $55,126-70,013

**If appointed on a provisional basis, appointee must take and pass the next Civil Service exam for this title. The exam score must be eligible for appointment in order to remain in the position.**
