Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in the Education field; AND NYS certification as a school administrator (SAS or SDA).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates who have:
• Experience working with deaf students.
• Ability to communicate through ASL/Sign Language.
• NYS certification in Special Education/Teacher of the Deaf.
• Experience supervising staff in an education setting.
• Experience implementing the Common Core Learning Standards.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s School for the Deaf is seeking to fill an Assistant Superintendent for Program Services position. The incumbent will work under the direction of the Superintendent and is responsible for the supervision of all Instructors, Special Education Assistants, and Instructor Assistants. Major responsibilities of this position will include, but not be limited to, the following:
• Assume responsibilities of Superintendent in his/her absence;
• Coordinate all curriculum writing, mapping, and implementation;
• Serve as a member of the multiple disciplinary team;
• Conduct monthly education meetings, elementary department, and high school department meetings;
• Supervise after school programs including instructional and extra-curricular activities;
• Assist Superintendent in labor-relation matters;
• Develop and monitor budgets for all instructional staff;
• Supervise and hire summer school staff.
• Collaborate with the Head of Department and instructional staff to develop a long-range improvement plan including curriculum, instruction, and replacement schedules;
• Collaborate with the leadership team to ensure compliance with the regulations and expectations of the State Education Department; and
• Collaborate with Chairpersons of Special Education from home schools to ensure compliance and expectations of students and programs.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. This will be a permanent appointment.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $82,195 with annual performance advances.
