Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be eligible for permanent appointment, candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Assistant in Nursing Education or be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for Assistant in Nursing Education. For provisional appointment, candidates must have a master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university, or one recognized by NYSED as following acceptable educational practices be licensed and Registered by the New York State Education Department as a Registered Professional Nurse AND three years of professional administrative or educational experience in a college, university, education agency, or professional association having oversight, regulatory, or coordinative responsibility for higher or professional education. Two years of this experience must have been related to either the regulation and/or licensure of nurses or to the development, review, or offering of nursing education programs.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of the Professions (OP) is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant in Nursing Education for the State Board for Nursing. This office assists the Board of Regents and the Department in the licensing and practice of the professions represented by the State Board for Nursing. Under the general direction of the Board’s Executive Secretary, the Assistant in Nursing Education assists in matters related to the licensure, education, conduct and practice of New York State licensed nursing professions as well as other New York State Licensed health care professions, according to State law and Departmental Rules and regulations. Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Conducting research and surveying other jurisdictions regarding health care professional licensing, educations and practice matters;
• Drafting clinical practice position statements and recommendations for review and approval by the Executive Secretary;
• Interacting with the licensure testing body for nursing (National Council of State Boards for Nursing) as well as other professional organizations in matters relating to licensed health care professions;
• Attending meetings of the Nursing Board, other boards, and professional and government organizations, as assigned, and preparing draft minutes and reports as requested;
• Assisting the Executive Secretary to monitor compliance with continuing education requirements for health care professionals; and
• Assisting in the general workflow of the office, including responding to public inquiries regarding licensed professions; preparing office reports; acting as a liaison with other, Department personnel and Board Members; preparing draft responses on behalf of the Executive Secretary; and overseeing office operations in the absence of the Executive Secretary.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent appointment. Filling of this position is contingent upon Division of the Budget approval.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $81,415 through annual performance advances.
