Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.

If a viable eligible list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made. If you are appointed provisionally, you will have to take and pass the next Civil Service examination for this title when it is administered. Employees appointed provisionally must be reachable on the resulting eligible list for that title or their employment in the position (may have hold item) will end.

The minimum requirements for taking the examination are: two years of college study in engineering or technology which must have included at least 15 credit hours in electronics. In addition, you must have had three years of experience (Experience as a telephone, cable TV, or power company line person/laborer will not qualify.) in electronic troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, or design of solid state electronic equipment, including at least one year involving microprocessor-based traffic signal equipment.

Duties Description • Responsible for sample evaluation of microprocessor based traffic signal equipment and maintenance of appropriate evaluation records. Specifically, evaluate Intersection Cabinets, Signal Controllers, Current Monitors, Conflict Monitors, Loop Detectors, Isolation Cards, Power Supplies, Flashers, Switch Packs, Detection Equipment, and Communications Equipment.

• Responsible for the repair of microprocessor based traffic signal equipment and maintenance of appropriate repair records. This includes repair of Signal Controllers, Current Monitors, Conflict Monitors, Memory Modules, and Power Supplies.

• Conduct acceptance testing of microprocessor based traffic signal equipment, maintains appropriate status records and prepares units for distribution. This includes testing of subassemblies such as Intersection Cabinets, Signal Controllers, Current Monitors, Conflict monitors, Loop Detectors, Isolation Cards, Power Supplies, Flashers, Switch Packs, Detection Equipment, and Communications Equipment.

• Assist in the development and review of specifications for new and improved microcomputer signal hardware. Specifically, evaluate new designs of Intersection Cabinets, Signal Controllers, Current Monitors, Conflict monitors, Loop Detectors, Isolation Cards, Power Supplies, Flashers, Switch Packs, Detection Equipment, and Communications Equipment.

• Responsible for the proper maintenance of equipment and laboratory test equipment including microprocessor emulators, analyzers and oscilloscopes.

• Assist Regional Traffic Signal Crews with microcomputer hardware operational problems.

• Occasional travel may be required.

• Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
