Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: For permanent appointment or reassignment for NYSED employees, candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Assistant in Instructional Services (Chemistry, General Science 7-12).
If the eligible list contains fewer than three acceptors, a provisional appointment may be considered.
For provisional appointment, candidates must have a master’s degree AND New York State permanent or professional certification in Chemistry 7-12 AND three years of full-time classroom teaching experience in Chemistry 7-12.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of P12 Education is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant in Instructional Services (Chemistry, General Science 7 -12) in the Office of State Assessment. This Office is responsible for the development and statewide administration of all State examinations for elementary, intermediate and high school students. The incumbent of this position will provide assistance on learning standards and new assessments, provide technical assistance, develop and conduct training, research and prepare training materials and implement and monitor educational grants. Other duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Conduct activities related to the development of the High School Regents Examination in Physical Setting/Chemistry and other science exams as assigned;
• Convene and conduct exam review committees and key teacher-consultant committees;
• Participate in committee work and scoring sessions to provide content expertise in development of State exams;
• Recruit and train teacher-consultants to write questions for assessments;
• Develop and administer field test exams to target student samples;
• Review and revise questions for field test analysis and work with the Content Advisory Panel (CAP) for science;
• Manage the work of contractors in the preparation and review of certain aspects of the development of Regents Examinations in Physical Setting/Chemistry and other science exams as assigned;
• Prepare and review examinations, rubrics and supplementary test materials and monitor their progress through the translation and printing stages;
• Maintain a pool of teacher-consultants to participate as needed in test development activities in science, including training, assigning, and reviewing the work of teacher-consultants;
• Partner with Office of Curriculum and Instruction on the development and adoption of new content standards for K-12 science;
• Oversee the development of new Regents Examinations and other tests in the NYS Testing Program that are aligned to new content standards;
• Provide information and assistance related to assessment to NYS educators, school personnel, professional organizations, State and federal governmental agencies, the CAP, and the public; and
• Represent the Department at meetings and projects related to the NYS assessments.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent or provisional appointment.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $81,415 based on annual performance advances.
