Minimum Qualifications Four years of full time experience in the primary trade of masonry under a skilled journey-level position which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprentice program. Apprenticeship training in a trade or training gained by the completion of technical courses in a trade at a school or institute may be substituted for the above experience on a year for year basis.
Duties Description Under the supervision of the Regional Maintenance Supervisor, the selected candidate will be assigned to perform work primarily in the trade of masonry. Duties will include repair of Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) historic stone walls, stone fireplaces, stairways, lay out of block and brick buildings, interior ceramic tile, sidewalks, building facing and shelter repairs. The incumbent will also need to be semi-skilled in carpentry work as well as operate vehicles requiring a CDL license and various pieces of large equipment throughout the region. Such equipment will include, but is not limited to, dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, bulldozers and trenchers. In addition, the incumbent will be required to do other semi-skilled trades work and repairs as assigned. Although the work of the position is periodically inspected by the supervisor, the incumbent is expected to work with considerable independence as is typical of a craftsman. The incumbent will use hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, measuring and testing instruments appropriate for the crafts that are assigned.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
Applicants for the position must possess journey level skills in masonry (particularly stone work) as well as experience in carpentry and heavy equipment operation.
The incumbent shall be available for recall to work on emergency projects.
***Must obtain a New York State Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
Must be able to supervise small crews of temporary and permanent employees on jobsites.
Must have the ability to read blue prints and execute work as according to plans.
Must possess and maintain a NYS Driver’s License as a term and condition of employment.
***Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The candidate is required to participate in pre-employment, random and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.
