Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, recreational facility; OR two years of experience as a trade’s assistant under the supervision of a skilled trades¬person, or completion of an appropriate two-year technical/trades school course.

Duties Description Under the direction of the Park Manager of Rockefeller State Park Preserve, the Park Worker 3 performs facility and grounds maintenance and basic repair activities in a variety of trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and mechanical repairs. Employee operates and performs routine maintenance using a variety of hand and power-driven mechanical equipment including trucks, tractors, mowers, line trimmers, and power saws. Employee maintains the Preserve’s 32 miles of historic carriage road system by removing fallen trees, pruning low branches, cleaning drainage systems, mowing fields and trail shoulders, blowing leaves, digging invasives, and cutting vines. Employee oversees outside contractors related to maintenance. Employee helps Manager prioritize seasonal carriage road repair projects, coordinates/oversees repair projects done through annual contract, and tracks monthly bills and annual trail repair budget. Employee interacts with the Friends of Rockefeller State Park Preserve to prepare carriage roads for their horse and running events and report on carriage road maintenance. Employee consults and coordinates with Preserve’s Natural Resource Specialist on field mowing and carriage road shoulder management practices to achieve the Preserve’s native biodiversity and ecological stewardship goals. Employee leads pruning and tree trimming activities with a chain saw, coordinates use of chipper with other parks, and arranges for use of stump grinder and bucket truck, when needed. Employee manages Clivus Multrum toilets and on-site water system operations. Employee hires, supervises, reviews, trains and evaluates work of lower level maintenance staff. Employee may serve as Safety Officer and assists in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures and practices, assisting and directing staff and working with patrons to minimize potential problems. Employee maintains records including those pertaining to daily maintenance, hazard trees, trucks, AED, bulk petroleum storage, audits and personal timekeeping. The employee coordinates and performs snow removal using shovel, snow blower, and snow plow. Employee periodically assists with maintenance and operations at other State Park facilities as needed.
Employee may act independently with a minimum of direct supervision. Employee may assist with park operations and traffic control, as needed.

Additional Comments - Applicants must possess and maintain a valid U.S. driver’s license as a term and condition of employment.
- The applicant must be familiar with learning, ecological stewardship practices, including recognition of common invasive and native plant species.
- Employee must be able to operate and perform routine maintenance on a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment including trucks, tractors, mowers, line trimmers, and power saws.
- Applicant must participate in and complete chainsaw training within the probationary period.
- Applicant must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
- Applicant must have the ability to communicate orally with other staff and park patrons,
- Must have the ability to supervise other employees, and must have the ability to communicate in writing and comprehend written material.
- Applicants must be available to work weekends and holidays.
