Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: For permanent appointment or reassignment for NYSED employees, candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Agency Program Aide OR candidates must be reachable on the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or a current NYS employee eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
70.1 Transfer
To be eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title allocated to grade 11 or higher deemed eligible to transfer.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $51,830 with annual performance advances.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Counsel is seeking applicants to fill the position of Agency Program Aide. The Office of Counsel provides the Regents, the Commissioner and the Department with legal counsel and services that enable them to establish education policy and comply with the law. Duties of this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Review, proofread and correct legal documents (e.g., agency regulations, letters, briefs, memoranda, and administrative decisions);
• Assist attorneys in responding to document requests (e.g., discovery, subpoenas, FOIL requests);
• Assist attorneys in preparing regulatory materials;
• Maintain the office databases, including those used to track litigation, legislation, ethics and subpoenas;
• Monitor and analyze database information to ensure that tasks are completed and timelines are met;
• Assist office staff as needed by answering, screening and redirecting phone calls; and
• Complete special projects as assigned.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent appointment. Filling of this position is contingent upon Division of Budget approval. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits.
