Minimum Qualifications License to practice denstistry in New York State and two years of full time post licensure dentistry experience. Also, proper certification in the completion of 150 hours post graduate continuing education within the last three years.
Duties Description Provide dental care for inmates in a correctional facility housing 1800+ male inmates. Dentists do extractions, restorations, prosthetics, root canal therapy, prophylaxis, and limited periodontics; administer local anesthesia; examine and chart the dental condition of patients; take and interpret dental x rays; perform oral surgery; and treat oral diseases and infections. Where appropriate the Dentist may provide oral hygiene instruction.
As a Dentist 2, you would have responsibility, usually under the advisory direction of a higher ranking dentist, for the regular examination, treatment, and complete dental care of patients in a State facility. You may be the only dentist in a very small institution or facility. Duties and organizational context are similar to those for Dentist 1 except this level recognizes the more advanced practitioner.
