Minimum Qualifications Three years of professional level experience in gaming regulation or investigation, accounting, or auditing, or satisfactory combination of the above OR four years of criminal investigative experience involving fraud, corruption, and/or organized crime and preparation of information and evidence usable in civil litigation or criminal prosecution.
Substitution: A Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for one year of the qualifying experience. A Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or police science, or a JD or LLB degree may be substituted for three years of the criminal investigative experience.
Duties Description Under the direct supervision of the Director, Division of Charitable Gaming, the Racing and Wagering Investigator will:
• Monitor and inspect locations where charitable gaming occurs statewide, including bingo, raffles, bell jar and Casino Nights and where gaming equipment is being stored.
• Conduct field investigations based upon complaints, audits and referrals from other agencies, to ensure that charitable gaming is being conducted fairly and that the funds derived from such conduct by charitable organizations is disbursed lawfully.
• Prepare comprehensive report of investigative findings.
• Interview witnesses, suspects and complainants, secure evidence and present cases for criminal investigations to state and local law enforcement agencies when necessary.
• Provide testimony for criminal and administrative proceedings.
• Meet with Charitable Gaming auditors to review audit findings.
• Provide assistance to municipal licensing authority statewide.
• Conduct background investigations and interviews of supplier license applicants.
• Represent the Gaming Commission at conferences, conventions and seminars statewide.
• Conduct charitable gaming training seminars for licensees, municipal clerks, law enforcement and other agencies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Comments The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM. However, the schedule may vary and include evenings and weekends.
Required travel will be up to 80%. This is a field position, so extensive travel, including occasional overnight stays, is required. Geographic areas include the five boroughs of New York City, Suffolk, Nassau, Westchester, Rockland, Dutchess, Putnam, Ulster, Orange and Sullivan Counties.
Appointment will be contingent upon completion of a fingerprint background check before an official appointment offer can be made.
