Minimum Qualifications Five years of experience in an appropriate discipline or subject matter.
Instructors must also meet the qualifications set by the New York State Division of Homeland Security and comply with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Office of Domestic Preparedness, Office of State & Local Government Coordination and preparedness (SLGCP) Instructor Certification program, or one of the following equivalent processes:
• Instructional development course(s) approved by the National Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) or approved equivalent.
• Programs meeting the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1041 Standards for Fire Service Instruction Professional Qualifications, Fire Instructor Level 1 or 2, including those accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (NBFSPQ).
• Specialized Training Certification Program or Academy Instructor Certification Program offered by the States Commission on Peace or Police Officer Standards & Training through the Division of Criminal Justice Services.
• Requirements for faculty as stated in Standards and Guidelines for Accreditation of Educational Programs in the Emergency Medical Services Professions, and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education (CAAHEP).
• Programs meeting ANSI/ASSE Z490.1: Criteria for Accepted Practices in Safety, Health and Environmental Training.
• Equivalent instructor development programs or courses on instruction acceptable to DHSES.
Duties Description The duties of the Part-Time Training Technician are as follows:
• Provide the first responder community with relevant training focused on Homeland Security, Natural Disaster Preparedness and Recovery, and Weapons of Mass Destruction.
• Keep up to date with current events and trends in training.
• Update and refine curricula for related training courses in Homeland Security and Disaster Recovery related to current events and trends.
• Coordinate with Logistics Personnel to obtain equipment required for course delivery.
• Deliver training curricula insuring that training objectives are met.
• Ensure that necessary correspondence, reports and evaluations of courses delivered at the SPTC are completed by students prior to course completion.
• Remain current in required instructor certifications necessary to properly deliver training courses.
• Take the lead instructor role for certain courses if necessary.
• Obtain necessary travel authorizations and complete travel arrangements when required to travel for training related course deliveries.
• Keep track of hours worked for submittal to LATS.
• Ensure the safety of students participating in training by following all relevant safety procedures associated with the training course.
Additional Comments Hours: Work hours are typically Monday-Friday daytime hours, however nights, weekends and holidays may also be required to meet the operational needs of the SPTC.
