Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications for Provisional Appointment: Candidates must have three years of professional engineering experience AND either possess a New York State Professional Engineer’s license and current registration; OR possess a Professional Engineer’s license and current registration from a state or territory of the United States by means of a 16-hour written licensing examination which is the equivalent of that in New York State. Candidates appointed under this option must secure a New York State Professional Engineer’s license within 12 months of appointment in order to continue employment.

Reassignment Qualifications: You must be a Labor Department employee and have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/55c service as a Senior Safety and Health Engineer.

A Department of Labor employee with less than one year permanent competitive service is eligible for reassignment to a different geographic location only if the employee is reachable for appointment from the Civil Service list in the new location.

Transfer Qualifications: This position is designated as administrative and may be filled via administrative transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law, provided all transfer criteria are met. Source titles from which transfer may be made must be designated administrative and be Grade 23 or above.

For Section 70.1 Transfer: You may be eligible for a Section 70.1 transfer to Senior Safety and Health Engineer if you have one year permanent competitive service as a Public Health Engineer 2.

Duties Description Standard Duties: As the Senior Safety and Health Engineer for the new Mold Licensing and Remediation Unit, you will be responsible for the technical review of all training curriculums, educational facilities and tests. You will also be responsible for the review of all modifications submitted for review for such training. You will be involved in initial discussions with the public regarding mold activities, and you will be responsible for screening all complaints to determine the level of severity and urgency before submitting such complaints to other Mold Unit staff for action. You would represent the Commissioner of Labor, when requested, in judicial and quasi-judicial proceedings pertaining to the Labor Law and OSHA Standards and Industrial Code Rules. You would assist at public hearing on revised and new standards and providing additional technical information. You would need to be free to travel occasionally and provide a satisfactory means of transportation whenever necessary.
