Bargaining UnitPS&T - Professional, Scientific, and Technical (PEF)
Salary RangeFrom $37621 to $37621 Annually
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree and four years of professional research experience in the appropriate field; or a Master’s Degree and three years of such experience; or a Doctorate in the appropriate field and one year of such experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a Doctoral-level Degree (PhD or equivalent) and a minimum of four years of experience with relevant techniques, including specimen preparation, anatomical tracer injection, perfusion, and all related aspects of histological analysis. Other relevant experience would include:
• Experience with the administration and
evaluation of chemogenetic techniques (i.e.,
DREADD).
• Relevant to these evaluations, the individual
must have extensive experience with the
quantification of cellular fluorescence labeling
patterns in neocortical and subcortical
structures.
• Experience with the application and evaluation
of transcranial electric stimulation techniques,
such as tACS and tDCS.
• In-depth knowledge of laminar multielectrode
physiology and functional MRI measurement
techniques for neural activation in animal
models.
Duties Description The primary responsibility of this position will be to apply, refine, and evaluate electrical and chemical neuromodulation techniques in animal models using a combination of neuroanatomical, neurophysiological, and neuroimaging techniques. Particular focus will be placed on the evaluation of cutting edge methodologies for neuromodulation, including transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) and Designer Receptors Exclusively Activated by Designer Drugs (DREADD). This will involve innovation and implementation of a range of techniques for evaluating short- and long-term neural responses (i.e., neuroplasticity) in the brain, including functional MRI imaging, laminar multielectrode physiological recordings, and cellular fluorescence. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
• Conducting experiments focused on the
evaluation of neuromodulation techniques
(tDCS, tACS, DREADD).
• The development of grants and contracts that
further the mission of the NKI and OMH.
• Timely presentation and publication of findings
in appropriate scientific venues and journals.
• Collaboration with other C-BIN investigators in
the planning, design, and analysis of
neuromodulation experiments.
• Mentoring of junior faculty and staff.
Additional Comments Background Investigation/Justice Center Review: Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
