Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Reassignment: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Library Technical Assistant.
§70.1 Transfer: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-11 or above deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
Provisional Appointment: Must have an associate’s degree or 60 college credit hours AND two years of professional library technical services experience* in which at least 50% of job duties included the following: online catalog organization, input, and use; working on the OCLC System; technical processing of library materials; and preservation of library materials.
*Experience limited to circulation activities, clerical duties, or retrieving and shelving materials is NOT qualifying.

Duties Description The Office of Cultural Education (OCE) is seeking to fill a Library Technical Assistant position in the Acquisitions Unit within the New York State Library (NYSL). The incumbent will perform a variety of technical processing tasks relating to acquiring and processing monographs, serials, microforms, and online services. Under the direction of a Library Clerk 3, duties of this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Perform pre-order searching of serials on Online Computer Library Center (OCLC), on the library’s online catalog, and other library-related on-line databases;
• Resolve serial check-in problems, serial claims and process serial cancellations and title changes;
• Input invoice information in the library’s online acquisitions module;
• Check vendor statements and resolve billing problems;
• Contact publishers and vendors to track payment or order problems;
• Update and ensure accuracy of holdings information on bibliographic records in the library’s online catalog, including comparing records on OCLC and the online catalog along with checking the shelves and correct bound-with items;
• Search titles and create orders for books;
• Check-in books and process invoices and gift donations;
• Resolve holdings problems associated with bound serials and add serial items to the bibliographic record;
• Check-in and process local government codes updates;
• Prepare in-house procedures and instructions; and
• Assist in training support staff.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent or provisional appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $49,041 based on annual performance advances.
