Minimum Qualifications This title is non-competitive. No examination is necessary. However, you must still meet the Minimum Qualifications of the position.

Candidates must have a doctorate and four years of professional research experience in the appropriate field.

Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track-record of high-impact publications, sponsored research support, and mentorship in translational neuroscience with special emphasis on cognitive aging and hippocampal function as it pertains to neuropsychiatric illness.

Duties Description The candidate will be based in the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry and advise, consult, and engage in research collaborations across divisions, linking to the Program on Healthy Aging, the Division of Behavioral Medicine, the Prodromal Schizophrenia Center, and the MRI Research Unit to promote research aimed at the identification of underlying mechanisms of disease and putative targets for clinical intervention and prevention of neuropsychiatric illness. The individual will develop and maintain a portfolio of funded research at NYSPI with special emphasis on clinical and translational studies of hippocampal function in health and disease.
The individual will teach and mentor junior research staff, and trainees at NYSPI, consult and advise on scientific methodology, and assist in grant proposal development. The individual will advise the NYSPI research cabinet on strategic development, recruitment and retention strategic, and will serve as a member of the MRI Research

Additional Comments Background Investigation Requirements:
Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
