Appointment: A bachelor's degree including nine (9) semester credit hours in statistics, economics, econometrics, or research methods and two years of subsequent professional research experience in the collection and evaluation of quantitative data directed toward review and analysis of program operations. Candidates must also have at least three years of research experience in the field of criminal justice (a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice may be substituted for one year or a master’s degree in criminal justice may be substituted for two years of this experience).
In order to be considered for provisional appointment, you must have applied to take the NYS Civil Service exam for this title being held on May 14, 2016.
Preferred Qualifications: Excellent organizational, technical and communication skills; the ability to work in a team setting; experience manipulating and analyzing data; and strong report writing skills, including the ability to succinctly summarize research findings in narrative form.
Duties Description Under the supervision of a Program Research Specialist 4 (SG-27), the incumbent will work on a team that conducts research, performs modeling and develops policy guidance related to reducing re-offending through offender programming interventions. The incumbent will research program models and review interventions offered in NYS, and elsewhere, to assess their impact on offender recidivism. Using a variety of data sources, the incumbent will assess local need, capacity, and program effectiveness through the lens of cost-benefit analysis. The incumbent will interpret research findings and write reports, briefs, and policy guidance memos summarizing research findings.
