Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s degree or higher AND a valid NYS license in Speech and Language Pathology OR a valid NYS Certificate in Speech/Language.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s School for the Blind is seeking applicants for an Instructor (Speech) (50%) position for the 30-day 2016 Summer School session. Major duties of this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assist in assuring that appropriate Individual Education Plans and Behavior Plans are established and implemented consistently, and that all mandates are fulfilled;
• Administer standardized speech/language assessments;
• Assist in data collection and in the development of educational reports and recommendations;
• Plan and conduct activities to enhance development of speech/language skills in areas of need;
• Establish a daily schedule for students and staff;
• Assist in home, residential, health center, and school communication and ensure program consistency;
• Complete all required paperwork;
• Perform other duties as requested by the Head of Department; and
• Perform behavioral and health and safety standards as defined in the employee handbook.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. This will be a temporary, hourly position with a maximum of 17.5 hours per week and the weekly schedule determined based on student needs. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits.
