Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Assistant in Education Improvement Services OR candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for this title.

Section 70.4 Transfer
A candidate may be eligible for nomination for Section 70.4 transfer to Assistant in Education Improvement Services if they have standing on the Civil Service eligible list for this title and are currently a New York State employee in a title allocated at Grade 20 or higher.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for an Assistant in Education Improvement Services position in the Office of Student Support Services. This Office promotes school improvement by focusing on social and emotional development and learning. This Office provides support and assistance with the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA), pupil personnel services, school and student health, expanded learning opportunities, social and emotional development and learning, and safe schools and alternative education. The incumbent of this position will focus primarily on the priority areas related to school safety including but not limited to Violent and Disruptive Incident Reporting (VADIR), DASA and School Safety Plans. Other duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provide technical assistance (written and oral) to schools, school districts, local educational agencies, public and private agencies, professional groups and parents;
• Assist with management of annual applications and program requirements related to Alternative Education Programs including Incarcerated Youth;
• Arrange and conduct meetings, conferences, or workshops to support program initiatives;
• Conduct monitoring site visits and provide technical assistance to Persistently Dangerous (PD) schools;
• Prepare site visit written reports for PD schools;
• Review Incident Reduction Plans for PD schools;
• Serve on committees to support and advance Department initiatives related to School Safety;
• Assist in writing and reviewing regulations, Regents Items and policies regarding School Climate;
• Collaborate with the Department’s Information and Reporting Services office regarding the VADIR and DASA data collection systems; and
• Perform special assignments as assigned.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent appointment. Filling of this position is contingent upon Division of the Budget approval. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of degree will be required.

* Leads to a maximum salary of $81,415 based on annual performance advances.
