Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in biology, microbiology, infectious diseases or related natural sciences field and three years of professional experience in that field; or a Master’s degree in the appropriate field and two years of such experience; or a doctorate in the appropriate field.

Preferred Qualifications
Strong background in virology and molecular biology. Experience in a public health setting with a background in infectious diseases. Experience with coordination or supervision of research projects, including grant-writing, multi-site collaborations, database maintenance, human subject research ethics training and IRB application and reporting processes. Experience with the development of molecular assays and platforms including design, troubleshooting, clinical trials and quality assurance. Experience with outbreak response, including past laboratory participation in response efforts to infectious disease outbreaks. Knowledge and experience with BSL-2 laboratory work. Excellent communication and organizational skills including experience with scientific writing and presentation.

Duties Description The incumbent will participate in and supervise research projects in the Virology Laboratory, including molecular assay and platform development and validation. Primary responsibilities will include performing a variety of molecular assays for the investigation of new diagnostic tests, supervision of junior staff and students, database management and project coordination. Additional duties during outbreaks will include assisting with testing of clinical specimens and assisting the laboratory director with the coordination of the response efforts of the laboratory.

Additional Comments Permanent, non-competitive, full-time. Since exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position, the selected candidate will be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment, and may undergo pre-employment and/or periodic health evaluations and receive specific immunizations. In addition, dependent upon the initial assignment or subsequent re-assignment of this position, satisfactory background checks may also be required.
