Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or higher and five years of experience in agriculture, natural resource management, regional planning, economic development, manufacturing or food service fields that include business or program management, domestic or international marketing, conducting research, event planning or coordination, or developing or implementing strategies.

Preferred qualifications:
• Demonstrated familiarity with small and medium sized food producers supplying New York City market.
• Demonstrated familiarity with small and medium sized food processors in greater Metropolitan NYC area.
• Demonstrated familiarity with direct food marketing and farmers markets in greater Metropolitan NYC area.
• Minimum two years experience in any of the following: production agriculture, food distribution systems, or food processing.
• Supervisory experience.
• Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and organizing.
• Demonstrated public speaking and presentation skills.

Duties Description The Director of New York City Marketing and Outreach Office serves two primary functions: He or she ensures that the agency’s efforts in promoting agriculture and connecting rural agricultural producers to the New York City market are executed in a timely and effective manner. The New York City Marketing and Outreach Office serves as a touchpoint for the agricultural and food industries in the greater metropolitan area, including the lower Hudson Valley and Long Island. To further the office’s work, the director will:

• Provide technical assistance for producers, food processors, farmers markets, procurement officials and consumers at large.
• Extend access for all New Yorkers to New York agricultural products, to include farmers markets, Community Supported Agriculture (CSAs) and nutrition programs.
• Represent DAM at trade shows, public events, and other opportunities to support the agency’s mission to promote agriculture in New York State.
• As member of the Division of Agricultural Development, and in coordination with the Division Director in Albany, manage and produce any agency events in the greater New York City area.
• Directly supervise Division of Agricultural Development staff stationed in the Marketing and Outreach Office.
• Serve as liaison to other agricultural and food industry entities and government agencies in the greater metropolitan area, including the USDA FSA and Cornell Cooperative Extension.

The Director’s second primary function is to serve as the chief representative of the Agency in its New York City Office. These responsibilities relate not only to the office of Marketing and Outreach, but to other subdivisions of the Agency in New York City, including staff from the Division of Food Safety and Inspection and Land and Waters. As such, the Director’s other duties include, but are not limited to:

• Ensuring the Agency’s procedures and regulations are followed, including time and attendance, supplies, and other processes.
• Ensuring that the administrative needs of the New York City offices are met by agency resources.
• Interfacing with the Office of General Services for all matters pertaining to DAM’s physical space in New York.
• Representing DAM in collaboration with other state agencies in the Greater New York City area.
