Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or as a current Assistant Mechanical Construction Engineer eligible for transfer.
For Provisional Appointment (Promotion): Candidates must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55b/55c service as a Junior Engineer.
For Provisional Appointment (Open Competitive): Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or mechanical or electrical engineering technology AND one year of engineering experience in the inspection or supervision of mechanical and/or electrical installations in building projects AND an Engineer-in-Training Certificate resulting from successfully passing the Fundamental of Engineering licensing examination (FE).
Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION:
OPWDD’s Division of Enterprise Solutions Bureau of Facility Maintenance, Fire Safety & Emergency services is seeking an Assistant Architect for design and construction supervision of all construction activities related to environmental compliance projects and energy savings programs including Executive Order 88 regarding energy reduction and to maintain the infrastructure of all agency building through a maintenance construction program and re-commissioning of existing building systems.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide engineering review of state and voluntary program construction activities to residential buildings related to the NYS Building Code, ASHRAE standards, and the NFPA 101 Health Care and Board and Care occupancies code.
• Review all projects for compliance with the Energy Code. Provide direction to the field and to design consultants to improve energy performance through energy conservation measures.
• Ensure program environmental compliance with NYS DEC regulations including petroleum oil storage regulations, air emission regulations, water conservation and water treatment.
• Direct the field in the design and replacement of equipment including boilers, furnaces, hot water systems, pumping systems.
• Provide direction for the installation of NFPA 72 Fire Alarm systems and NFPA 13 Sprinkler systems in community residences for both voluntary and state operations.
• Provide technical assistance to the regional offices regarding cost control and engineering scope review of PPA projects for voluntary providers.
• Provide administrative management oversight of capital construction engineering projects for state and voluntary programs.
• As the authority having jurisdiction, review and approve Construction Permit applications for engineering work performed by the agency. Issue permits for engineering work including but not limited to boiler installations, furnace and air conditioning installations, septic installations, water wells, radon mitigation systems, fire alarms systems, sprinkler systems.
