Minimum Qualifications On or before the date of filing application, you must have a license to practice medicine in New York State. If you are licensed in another state or by written examination in Canada, you may be considered for appointment if you have a current limited permit to practice medicine in New York State. However, should you receive an appointment under this condition your continued employment will be dependent upon your maintaining a valid New York State limited permit (which is issued for a specific time period) or obtaining full New York State licensure. Failure to do so will result in termination of employment. You must also be eligible for full and unconditional participation in the Medicaid and Medicare programs. If you receive an appointment, your continued employment will depend upon maintaining eligibility. Failure to do so may result in termination of your employment. In addition, you must have a M.D., M.B.B.S. or D.O. degree; and have completed one year of postgraduate training acceptable to the Liaison Committee on Graduate Medical Education of the American Medical Association (or as listed in the Directory of Approved Residency Training Programs), and have had two years of subsequent medical experience.
Duties Description Maintain clear lines of authority responsibility. Establish specific goals and objectives for the health unit. Plan and implement programs that improve the health delivery to the correctional community. Responsible for health record documentation. Evaluate employee performance. Work cooperatively with other departments to accomplish objectives. Evaluate chronic care given to assess the needs of inmate patients. Participate in unit teaching, orientation and continuing education programs. Assure infirmary functions with clearly defined clinical administrative guidelines. Become familiar with community resources and services which can enhance health unit operations. Ensure emergency procedures protocols result in limited use of local hospital emergency room services.
