Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.
Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 60 pounds.
Duties Description Description of Duties:
Public Access/Land Management - Management activities to provide/enhance public access to lands administered by the Bureau of Wildlife. Responsibilities include assisting with: 1) management and operation of Cayuga/Tompkins Cooperative Hunting Area (e.g. hunter registration/reservations, daily check-in, and co-op patrol), 2) annual maintenance work on Wildlife Management Areas (WMA), including water control structure inspections, boundary line posting/marking, installation/replacement of signage, 3) processing permit applications for special use of WMAs, 4) responding to inquiries regarding compatible public use of WMAs, 5) vegetation management activities and habitat improvement projects, and 6) control of invasive plant species.
Wildlife Management – Support for multiple Wildlife program activities. Responsibilities include assisting with: 1) survey and monitoring efforts, such as annual hunter-killed deer check, pheasant stocking, and furbearer pelt sealing, 2) collection/submission of samples for wildlife disease surveillance programs (e.g., Chronic Wasting Disease), and 3) wildlife damage management activities (e.g. providing public with technical support to help mitigate wildlife-related damage.
Communication and Information Transfer - Assisting with education and outreach efforts by: 1) responding to wildlife-related inquiries (phone calls, letters, e-mails, in-person) from members of the public, 2) providing information about wildlife, their habitats, management, and use/appreciation via special outreach events (e.g. State/County fairs and annual sportsman shows), and 3) assisting with revisions to wildlife-related educational materials (e.g. fact sheets, web pages).
Qualifications:
In addition to the required qualifications listed below, preferred qualifications for the position include training and/or experience in the use of ATVs, chainsaws, and GPS equipment. Well-qualified candidates would also have a working knowledge of current database software and experience with Geographic Information Systems.

Additional Comments Seasonal, hourly appointment currently funded from 10/1/16 through 3/31/2017. Position may be extended from 4/1/2017 - 3/31/2018. If extended, position Program needs will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to 3/31/2018.
