Minimum Qualifications Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the Fish and Wildlife Technician 1 position which are as follows: 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.
Preferred qualifications: Experience with MS Word, Excel, Access, and ESRI GIS. Comfort driving trucks/SUVs while trailering boats, and experience handling small (10-20 ft) motorboats.
Duties Description The primary duty of this position is to assist with data entry, analysis, reporting, and document management for studies related to PCBs in the Hudson River. The technician will be responsible for maintaining field equipment and the inventory and ordering of field supplies. As needed, the technician will serve as crew on an electroshocking boat during periodic fish collections for contaminant analyses. The technician will also assist with the monitoring of reconstructed habitats and assist with gathering information about potential restoration projects along the Hudson River. As needed, the technician will assist biologists in data collection and habitat restoration monitoring at former industrial sites across New York State.
Additional Comments This is a temporary position with a duration of 9/1/16 -3/31/17.
These are seasonal, hourly appointments. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to the dates listed above. Actual work schedule, duties, and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
