Minimum Qualifications Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the Fish and Wildlife Technician 1 position which are as follows: 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.
Duties Description Candidate will assist in Furbearer Management program by issuing permits to fisher/marten/bobcat trappers, extracting teeth from submitted carcasses for age determination, and conducting occupancy surveys for fisher throughout the Adirondacks using baited camera traps. Experience with Access database software and excellent GIS skills required. Occupancy surveys will require working in remote locations in inclement winter weather conditions/temperatures. Experience operating ATVs and snow mobiles is required. Must be able to snowshoe through deep snows for extended periods. Good interpersonal skills also required.
Additional Comments This a temporary position with a duration of 10/20/16 through 3/31/17. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to dates listed in duties description. Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Actual work schedule, duties, and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
