Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
In the event that a viable eligible list may not exist in all locations, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for permanent appointment.
In addition, candidates must have a bachelor’s degree with 24 college credits in chemistry and/or biochemistry.
Duties Description Under the supervision of a higher level supervisor or manager, the incumbent will perform technical work at either 50 Wolf Road or the Albany Campus Labs, which may include, but is not limited to:
• Identifying and logging incoming samples into computer software.
• Preparing samples and conducting standard tests.
• Conducting complex tests on specialized materials.
• Recording test data and calculating test results.
• Maintaining test equipment and clean work area.
• Following safety procedures.
• Communicating with engineering staff and other sections concerning test results.
• Maintaining testing deadlines and priorities.
• Performing other duties as assigned in support of bureau functions.
• May supervise and train subordinate technical staff engaged in performing standardized tests.
Responsibilities also may include participating within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
