Minimum Qualifications High School diploma and two years of experience in the construction, design, operation, and repair of special machines, tools, and/or equipment fabricated for laboratory use.

Duties Description The Bureau of Air Quality Surveillance is responsible for the operation of the ambient air monitoring network for New York State. The network measures air pollutants at more than 50 sites across the state, using continuous and/or manual instrumentation. Our SUNY East Campus facility located in Rensselaer houses our analysis laboratories and field instrumentation maintenance & repair center. This position will be responsible for the design, fabrication and maintenance of air monitoring equipment. Major tasks will include:

•Maintaining equipment to achieve maximum data capture
•Acceptance and pilot testing of new monitoring equipment
•Deployment of equipment for special studies
•Operation of monitoring equipment at special project sites
•Training of field personnel on monitoring equipment and methods
•Coordinating with Central Office laboratory staff on special projects

Additional Comments Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel, overtime, and overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:
•Ability to evaluate, modify, design, fabricate, operate, and maintain various electromechanical devices and equipment.
•Capable of handling the standard tools of electricians
•Excellent technical skills
•Able to drive a truck or van and capable of loading and unloading vehicles
•Able to operate a computer and possess knowledge of required technical computer programs
•Able to write correspondence and reports
•Possess good communication skills
•Able to lift and carry heavy equipment
•Comfortable in the use of ladders and scaffolding
