Minimum Qualifications In order to be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable from the Appropriate Civil Service eligible list. If a viable eligible list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made. (You MUST be signed up to tae the upcoming Junior Landscape Architect Civil Service test being held on October 29, 2016) If you are appointed provisionally, you will have to take and pass the next Civil Service examination. You must also be reachable on the resulting eligible list for that title or your employment in the position will end. In order to be considered for provisional appointment, you must have a Bachelor’s or higher-level degree in landscape architecture or a Landscape Architect’s license from any state or political subdivision of the United States.
1. Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university with a Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB) accredited curriculum, A Canadian Society of Landscape Architects Accreditation Council (CSLAAC), or a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the NYS Education Department as following acceptable practices.
2. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. You can write to the Examination Information Desk of the NYS Department of Civil Service for a list of acceptable companies who provide this service. You must pay the required evaluation fee. Duties Description Duties will include:
• Provide landscape architecture design and support for transportation improvement projects and environmental enhancement projects.
• Provide technical assistance and advice to engineering staff on environmental issues and regulations.
• Perform environmental analysis and coordinate permit applications interaction with public and private entities.
• Assist with erosion and sediment control plans and storm water management plans.
• Perform wetland delineations.
• Prepare project plans, specifications, estimates and correspondence.
Successful candidate will be expected to have good written and verbal communication skills. It should be noted that the developing zonal responsibilities for this group to support Regions 8, 10 and 11 may result in some travel to provide appropriate services to all. Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
