To qualify for this position, you MUST meet the following requirements:

Nurse 3 Psychiatric is a continuous recruitment examination. Candidates who are not on the eligible list may apply for this position and if appointed will receive a temporary appointment. Candidates appointed temporary must receive a score that is reachable on the resulting eligible list before they can be permanently appointed. Candidates who are found not qualified, or who do not receive a reachable score may not be retained.

You must be licensed and currently registered to practice nursing in New York State and have a bachelor's degree in nursing OR present a notarized letter from the registrar as proof of status as a matriculated senior in a baccalaureate nursing program (you must obtain your degree within one year of the date of appointment or action will be taken to remove you from the position), AND have two years of full-time post-RN licensure clinical nursing experience with individuals, at least 50% of whom have been diagnosed with mental illness, alcoholism, or chemical dependency; OR a master's degree or doctorate in nursing and one year of full-time post-RN licensure clinical nursing experience.

Duties Description As a Nurse 3 (Psychiatric), you would provide direct nursing care to patients with severe or complicated psychiatric, chemical dependency, and/or medical problems. Nurse 3 (Psychiatric) acts as a supervisor, consultant, teacher and resource person to Nurses 1 and 2, as well as other direct care staff in the Nursing Department. The position shares both clinical and administrative responsibilities, which includes a collaborative role with the Nurse Administrator. The Nurse 3 is expected to demonstrate and teach effective nursing interventions to other nursing staff, review and consult regarding documentation required in the medical record and participate in various Quality Management activities through the Nursing Office. The Nurse 3 chairs and participates in department committees, develops policy, develops and teaches effective nursing interventions to all nursing staff and helps facilitate facility initiatives.

If you fail to maintain your registration once you are appointed, action will be taken to remove you from the position.

You must be eligible and maintain eligibility for full and unconditional participation in the Medicaid and Medicare programs. If you receive an appointment, your continued employment will depend on maintaining eligibility. Failure to do so may result in the termination of your appointment.

If appointed you may be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider; obtain and provide to your employer a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number issued by the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES); and otherwise actively participate to the degree necessary to allow for your services to be billed through Medicare and Medicaid. If you are appointed and you lost the ability to bill though Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment.

Additional Comments Background Investigation/Justice Center Review:
Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees will be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.

Additional Comments:

Posted Salary Range includes an Increased Hiring Salary ($3,471) and Geographic Differential ($12,871) added to the statutory hiring rate ($59,108). Geographic Differential added to the job rate ($74,986) for the PS&T Grade 20.

This position is eligible for a downstate adjustment of $3,026.

Additional compensation may apply based on shift assignment.
