Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business or Public Administration or a related field and at least 4 years of direct experience handling employee/labor relations in a business setting.
2 years experience in labor relations in a NYS agency at a grade 18 or higher can substitute for the Bachelor's degree.
PREFERRED:
A Master's degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business or Public Administration or a related field
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to exercise sound and prudent judgment
Ability to effectively deal with sensitive issues, often involving interpersonal conflict
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
Self-starter who has the ability to work independently
Experience conducting workplace investigations
Experience administering a union contract, including grievance administration
Expertise and experience with various Labor Laws, including COBRA, FMLA, FLSA, ADA, NYS Human Rights, Worker's Compensation , ACA, Civil Service and Taylor Law
Public sector labor relations experience
Commitment to providing exceptional customer service
Duties Description This position provides direct professional support to the Director of Human Resources and the Assistant Manager of Human Resources in all aspect of labor and employee relations. General areas of responsibility include conflict resolution, policy development, investigations, counseling and discipline and labor law compliance.
Additional Comments This position is "Confidential" and does not come under the jurisdiction of the Department of Civil Service. New appointees to Confidential positions must serve a one year probationary period.
