Minimum Qualifications A Doctoral Degree and four years of professional research experience in an appropriate field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of experience in advanced approaches to the study of memory including; episodic and semantic memory through research directed at understanding the mechanisms by which memories consolidate in the normal brain.

Other relevant experience would include:

• A proven track record of independent federally-funded
research.

• Ability to set up cross-disciplinary collaborations.

• A focus on translational research.

• A research focus on the understanding of clinically relevant
brain circuits.

• A track record of successful mentorship of young
investigators.

Duties Description The Emotional Brain Institute (EBI) is a multidisciplinary translation research program focused on the mechanisms underlying normal and pathological emotions, especially as they relate to fear and anxiety and their origins in brain systems. Under the general supervision of the Director of the EBI, the incumbent will be expected to work collaboratively on team projects while pursuing an independent research program related to the NKI mission. Specific responsibilities would include, but not be limited to:

• The development of grants and contracts that further the
mission of the NKI and OMH.

• Timely presentation and publication of findings in appropriate
scientific venues and journals.

• Collaboration with other EBI and Institute-wide investigators.

• Mentoring of junior faculty and staff.

Additional Comments Background Investigation Requirements:
Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
