Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled journey-level position which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprentice training in a trade or training gained by the completion of technical courses in a trade at a school or institute may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year-basis. This position also requires a valid NY State driver's license.
Duties Description Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Under general supervision, the incumbent will perform skilled journey-level tasks in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment; plans layout and installs and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment; and semiskilled level work in a combination of other trades in the repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment.
Specific duties include:
1) Electrical
-Working knowledge of electrical theory and of the applicable standards and electrical code regulations.
- Install power and lighting circuits, run wire, install outlets, and switches.
- Wire and repair appliances including replacing motors, circuits, and timers.
- Computer and telecommunications cable installation and maintenance.
- Ability to read circuit diagrams, architectural blueprints and generator and motor control diagrams; and ability to use the tools and materials of the trade.
2) Painting
- Prepare surfaces to receive paint.
- Paint surface using brush, roller and/or spray.
3) Carpentry
- Finish carpentry including doors, cabinetry, paneling, counter tops, partitions.
4) Plumbing
- Repair of toilets, sinks, dishwashers, hot water heater, and faucets.
- Installing dishwashers, sinks, hot water heaters and other plumbing fixtures.
5) HVAC
Ice machines
Air handling units
Induction units with hot and cold feeds
VAV boxes
Pneumatic and electric actuators, valves and controls
Open and closed loop cooling towers
Boilers and hot water systems
Air compressors
Variable frequency drives
Computer room CRAC units
6) Masonry
-Repair or replace interior plaster and sheet rock walls, and tile on walls or floors.
7) Miscellaneous Trades
-Carpeting, furniture, glass.
8) Outdoor Maintenance
- Use of light and heavy equipment for landscaping
Additional Comments Preferred Skills/Expertise
- Working knowledge of methods, material, tools, and equipment used in the craft assigned.
- Working knowledge of refrigerant, plumbing and electrical codes.
- Ability to use the tools, machines, equipment, and material of the craft assigned.
- Ability to plan and lay out work and diagnose problems.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, diagrams, architectural blueprints, and specifications.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral instructions.
