Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be employed by New York State to be eligible to apply for this position.

Transfer:

Candidates must have one year of permanent service as a Food Service Worker 1, Grade 5, and be eligible for transfer; OR be eligible for transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. If you are unsure your title qualifies for transfer, you may e-mail omhhrm@omh.ny.gov for a determination.

Temporary:

There are no minimum qualifications, but candidates appointed temporary must take the next Civil Service examination for this title and their score must be reachable on the resulting eligible list before they can be permanently appointed. Candidates who do not pass the examination or do not achieve a reachable score may not be retained in the title. At this time, a date for the next Food Service Worker 1 exam has not been announced.

Duties Description The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is seeking qualified candidates to fill two, one full time and one part time (50%), Food Service Worker 1, Grade 5, positions at the Cook Chill Production Center (CCPC) located in Orangeburg, New York.

The CCPC produces wholesome food that meets the nutritional and budgetary needs of its customers, which include OMH facilities, other State and government facilities, and non-profit agencies. Cook Chill is a system which prepares large quantities of food with an extended shelf life.

The Food Service Worker 1 incumbent is responsible for assisting in the production of food products for OMH customers. Duties may include, but not be limited to:

• Assist in weighing, measuring and labeling ingredients necessary for recipes.
• Assist in the preparation, cooking, chilling and packaging of food products in accordance with CCPC, local, state and federal health code standards.
• Clean, sanitize and maintain work areas and food equipment in accordance with CCPC standards before and after each work day.
• Assist in the breakdown and reassembly of food equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
• Wash pots, pans and utensils by hand and machine in the ware wash room.
• Unload delivery trucks and place bulk deliveries in appropriate storage areas.

Additional Comments Part time work schedule for Food Service Worker 1 is either 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Specific schedule assignments will be discussed during the interview process.
