Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be reachable for appointment from the current Civil Service eligible list for this title.

OR

Transfer Opportunities - Candidates must have one year of permanent service as a Food Service Worker 1 and eligible for lateral transfer;

OR

Candidates must have one year of permanent service in a title approved by the Department of Civil Service for transfer to Food Service Worker 1 via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

OR

Temporary Appointment – There are no minimum qualifications, but candidates appointed in temporary status must take the next scheduled Civil Service examination for this title and their score must be reachable on the resulting list before they can be permanently appointed. Candidates who do not pass the examination or achieve a reachable score may not be retained.

Note: Candidates must be able to read, write and speak English and must be able to follow both written and spoken instructions. You must be in good health and good physical condition.

Duties Description As a Food Service Worker 1, you would be responsible for serving food and for keeping the areas where food is served, both clean and in good order. Medium to heavy physical effort may be required. You would help prepare trays for serving, transport food carts to serving areas, and return used dishes and equipment to pot and dishwashing areas. Some food preparation may be required. You would clean serving or tray line areas as appropriate and make sure that all equipment is ready for the next meal. Some operation of a dishwasher may be required. You would participate in sanitation activities in dining areas and in other food service and preparation areas, order and store supplies and generally help to ensure that individuals in the care of the facility are fed properly.

Additional Comments Background Investigation/Justice Center Review: Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), that includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
