Minimum Qualifications Candidates for the positions of Special Assistant Attorney General must possess excellent analytical, writing, communication and organizational skills, and a minimum of four (4) years of practice experience. Candidates should also demonstrate: (1) the ability to articulate the critical issues in a case accurately and precisely; (2) strong research and interpersonal skills; (3) good judgment; (4) the ability to work independently and to work productively as a team member; and (5) the ability to work in a supportive and professional manner with professional staff and support staff.
Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York State and be admitted to practice law in New York State. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that attorneys in the Office be citizens of the United States.
Duties Description The Office of the New York State Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit’s Civil Enforcement Division, based primarily in New York City, is seeking experienced litigators to direct complex civil fraud investigations in the healthcare industry, utilizing the New York State False Claims Act, Social Services Law §145-b, and the Executive Law, and to handle asset forfeiture actions and other matters involving civil remedies. Many of our actions involve coordination with other state and federal anti-fraud agencies resulting in large-scale recoveries. Applicants for civil litigation positions should have substantial experience conducting pre-filing investigations and discovery, and outstanding legal research and writing abilities. Trial experience is not required, but is a plus. The Civil Enforcement Division will consider applications from prosecutors seeking to expand their range of experience.
Additional Comments Salary to be determined commensurate with experience.
