Minimum Qualifications The New York State Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking an attorney to serve as an Assistant Attorney General (AAG) in the Executive Division, reporting to the Director of Operations and working in conjunction with another Assistant Attorney General. The selected applicant will be responsible for: preparing substantive briefings for the Attorney General for meetings and public events, including press conferences, press interviews, town halls and third-party sponsored events; preparing memos for the Attorney General on the news of the day; and conducting research and drafting memoranda on legal and public policy topics as requested. This position is located in New York City.
Duties Description Applicants must have demonstrated skills in legal research, analysis and writing, and strong organizational skills. The ability to produce clear, concise, and error-free documents within a limited timeframe is a must. The applicant should also have strong interpersonal skills, as this position will require the applicant to gather and synthesize information from managers and staff throughout the agency. At least one (1) year of full-time employment experience, either post- undergraduate or post-law school, is also required. Prior experience in government is preferred, but not required.
Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York State and be admitted to practice law in New York State. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that attorneys in the OAG be citizens of the United States. A two (2) year commitment upon being hired is a condition of employment.
