Minimum Qualifications +Minimum Qualifications for Provisional Appointment:
1) Must be a qualified employee of NYS and have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Junior Engineer and must show proof of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) licensing examination by the time of appointment. OR 2) Must have a bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or mechanical or electrical engineering technology AND one year of engineering experience in the inspection or supervision of mechanical and/or electrical installations in building projects AND must show proof of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) licensing examination by the time of appointment.
Reassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DEC
or
Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.
or
Transfer Eligible - One year of permanent competitive service at Salary Grade 18 or higher and either:
Eligible for transfer under Section 70.4: Must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications below;
or
Eligible for transfer under Section 70.1: Permanent competitive service as an Assistant Building Electrical Engineer or Assistant Mechanical Construction Engineer.
55-b/55-c Candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications below and include with their resume or application, a copy of the letter from Civil Service which indicates approval for the 55-b/55-c program. Open competitive minimum qualifications (provided for 55b/c candidates and 70.4 transfer eligibles):
you must have a bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or mechanical or electrical engineering technology
AND
one year of engineering experience in the inspection or supervision of mechanical and/or electrical installations in building projects
AND
must show proof of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination (FE) by the time of appointment. If there is a viable promotion examination eligible list (three acceptors) for this position, candidates who qualify based on 70.4 transfer or under the 55-b/55-c options cannot be considered.
Duties Description Prepare the technical portions of contractual bidding documents for the design and installation of electrical systems. In general, these projects involve the rehabilitation of or additions to existing electrical systems and new construction. You would prepare plans in AutoCAD, specifications, details, estimates and complex electrical designs for various state facilities, and may review consultant design documents to ensure compliance with client standards. Other duties include performing studies for electrical energy conservation and anticipated electrical projects, providing construction support to include checking shop drawings and equipment lists against drawings and specifications prepared by others, and answering questions from bidders, contractors and field staff. At project completion, coordinate with the project inspector and contractor in the preparation of AsBuilt drawings in AutoCAD.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.Travel, overtime, and overnight travel may be required.
