Minimum Qualifications High school diploma

Duties Description Give public tours and delivers public programs to diverse audiences; includes costumed interpretation. Other duties include:
• Visitor and customer service at reception desk and retail shop, including sales and operation of a cash register
• Assist site staff with the implementation /development/promotion/evaluation of programs and events
• Assist staff with private events (rentals and Friends group events)
• Assist staff with the research and creation of interpretive products such as blog entries, social media posts, press releases, hands-on activities
• Assist staff with occasional maintenance and delivery tasks; also some snow removal as needed
• Administrative assistance with mailings, filing, attendance tracking and other site operations functions
•?Collections care and handling, with senior staff supervision and training
• Employee chosen will receive training in tour guide techniques and site’s interpretive guidelines, and his/her performance will be reviewed and evaluated periodically
• Employee chosen will receive training in object security and protection, and in patron safety, including emergency evacuation procedures and responding to patron illness and other issues
• Employee chosen will be expected to take on occasional additional hours as needed (for events, programs or projects)

• Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to work and communicate effectively and productively with diverse people (staff, visitors, constituents of all kinds)
• Careful, accurate, and articulate delivery of site’s history and interpretive approaches
• Ability to stay on task, follow instructions and complete all assignments on schedule
• Flexibility, including ability to accept and make use of productive suggestions and feedback
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office package: Word, Excel, Outlook; experience and skills with social media highly desirable
• Must commit to being available on weekends, both Saturday and Sunday, year-round
• Must commit to working on some holidays: Labor Day, July 4th, Columbus Day, the day after Thanksgiving and the day after Christmas
• Must be reliable and punctual in reporting to work
