Minimum Qualifications Five years of experience in Network Design and Implementation
The following degrees, preferably in Computer Science or a related field, may substitute for the general experience as indicated:
• Associate’s degree and four years of experience
• Associate’s degree including 15 semester credit hours in computer science and three years of
experience
• Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience
• Bachelor’s degree including 15 semester credit hours in computer science and two years of
experience
• Master’s degree in computer science or related field substitutes for an additional year of
experience
• Doctorate in computer science or related field substitutes for an additional 2 years of experience
Preferred Qualifications:

Duties Description Under the direction of an Information Technology Specialist 4 (Data Communications), SG-25, the incumbent will serve as an Expert Lead Technician for multiple ITS Chief Operations Office Projects, such as Data Center Consolidation Project, NYX Core Buildout and management, Network Remediation Project, ongoing KLO (Keep the lights on) requests and related activities. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the architecture, integration, implementation, and maintenance of existing and future Business Network Systems including routers (including routing protocols such as BGP, MPLS, OSPF, RIP); switches (including spanning tree, LLDP, VSS and link aggregation); firewalls (including VPN tunneling); traffic shapers (including network traffic prioritization, QOS, and queuing); enterprise wireless solutions (802.11 AB/G/N,WPA, AES, 802.1x); and voice and video conferencing solutions. The incumbent may install new products and assist in the migration to new releases or version of products and provide related training.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Design, test, and implement network solutions, migrations, and upgrades for a multi-vendor network
environment (Juniper, Cisco, CheckPoint and Palo Alto) for ITS Enterprise and 4,000+ remote NYS Agency remote branch office networks;
• Design, implement, and support WAN/LAN technologies, including MPLS, Multicast, RIP, BGP, OSPF VLANs, Spanning Tree, CDP and Link Aggregation protocols;
• Troubleshoot application issues using protocol analysis tools (i.e. Wireshark, Gigastore) and conduct in-depth analysis on network data captures;
• Perform capacity planning and bandwidth analysis activities;
Diagnose and resolve network environment problems in conjunction with ITS technical staff and vendor technical staff;
• Provides off-shift support as required;
• Review network deployments and recommend remediation to ensure compliance with ITS Enterprise network standards;
• Update documentation of network to assure accuracy of Visio diagrams, operations procedures, training manuals, network templates, and task lists;
• Perform the full range of supervisory responsibilities
