Minimum Qualifications Current license to practice medicine in New York State, AND board-eligible or board-certified in a medical specialty AND either a Master’s Degree in Public Health or one year experience in a public health program.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred candidate should have three years of professional work experience in public health, infectious disease, healthcare epidemiology or preventive medicine within a health department, academic or clinical setting; and familiarity with communicable diseases and healthcare-associated infection surveillance and outbreak response activities.

Duties Description The Public Health Physician 2 will function as Director of the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) Healthcare Epidemiology and Infection Control Program. Duties will include: overseeing investigation and epidemiologic consultation for the prevention and control of Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) and outbreaks in hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare settings statewide; development of policy and clinical guidance documents on new and emerging pathogens for use by NYSDOH staff, local health departments, and health care providers; and surveillance and reporting of HAI outbreaks through the NYSDOH Health Commerce System. The incumbent will provide direct supervision of Central Office staff and technical oversight to Regional Office staff statewide; and development, execution, and dissemination of findings of investigations, evaluations, and research projects, including publication of peer-reviewed manuscripts. The Director will foster effective collaboration with public health, clinical, and other partners to advance the field of HAI prevention.

Additional Comments Permanent, non-competitive, full-time or part time appointment. Occasional travel, including overnights and travel to areas that may not be served by public transportation, is required.
