Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Candidates must have three years of experience in large-scale cooking, one year of which must have included regular supervision of subordinate employees.
Duties Description PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• The Cook will assist the Head Cook in the supervision of all FSW 1’s and FSW 2’s in the Department. This will include a daily assignment as the floor supervisor to supervise and direct employee’s in their assigned tasks.
• Prepares and cooks a variety of foods for Service Recipients on the LIT units and helps serve them at designated times.
• Responsible for receiving, storing, rotating, requisitioning, and dispensing all food and nonfood items in accordance with NYS Department of Health.
• Communicates with the Head Cook and other Departments to coordinate special functions and events as well as preparing cooked items for such events.
• Works with the Dietitian’s to plan menus and snacks which are appropriate for people requiring special diets to include allergies, religious accommodations, as well as consistency modifications.
• Tests foods for proper temperature and taste as adjusts as needed all while avoiding cross contamination.
• Oversees Mentoring in the department to include assignments, instructions, and communication with the Rehabilitation Coordinator to monitor progress of the Service Recipients.
• Plans and reviews menus with the Head Cook and Dietitians to vocalize concerns with acceptance, preparation and cooking times, staffing considerations, as well as equipment needs and food procurement processes.
• Functions as a Liaison to housing units, Maintenance, nursing, or other staff members to assist with needs or requests made of our Department.
• This Cook will be proficient in the OPWDD Choking Prevention Initiative Guide with a knowledge of food consistencies and preparation of all the consistencies listed in the Guide and will supervise FSW 2’s in the preparation of modified consistencies.
• Skilled knowledge of how to use, sanitize, and maintain all equipment used in food production.
