Candidates must have a reachable score on Campus Safety Specialist exam list OR have a current permanent appointment with 1 year of service as a Campus Safety Specialist OR be a former state employee eligible for reinstatement to the title of Campus Safety Specialist OR
PROVISIONAL PENDING EXAM:
Must meet eligibility requirements, take, pass and receive a reachable score on the next available Campus Safety Specialist exam. Provisional appointment does not guarantee permanent or contingent permanent appointment. High school graduate or equivalency AND EITHER 1. Three (3) years’ experience as an emergency responder in a career fire department; OR 2. Five (5) years’ experience as an emergency responder in a volunteer fire department and be an active member in good standing; OR 3. One (1) year experience as an emergency responder in a career fire department AND four years’ experience as an emergency responder in a volunteer fire department and be an active member in good standing; OR 4. Two (2) years’ experience as an emergency responder in a career fire department AND three years’ experience as an emergency responder in a volunteer fire department and be an active member in good standing.
Substitution: Completion of college level study, with a major in fire protection or fire prevention technology, may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience, at the rate of 30 semester credit hours equaling six months of experience. In order to receive credit for college study, you must include a photocopy of your transcript, including an identification of your major, with your application.
May be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at time of appointment.
Duties Description Candidates must complete a training program and pass a fire alarm technician certification exam through NICET, IMSA, or ESA during probation, and maintain certification as a condition of continued employment. Valid NYS Drivers License required.
