Minimum Qualifications Applicants should have a minimum of five (5) years of experience litigating environmental, energy, or similarly-complex statutory cases in federal and state courts and before administrative agencies. Excellent writing, research, and critical analytical skills are essential, as is the ability to develop and complete litigation and policy initiatives and filings in a timely manner. Ideal candidates will have litigated affirmative and defensive cases involving judicial review of administrative actions, rulemakings, and adjudicatory proceedings and have experience synthesizing information and building cases concerning public policy or technical areas requiring expert witness testimony. Applicants should identify their experience in energy, environmental, public health and safety, natural resources, land use, and/or commercial cases, particularly as a leader in developing and litigating these types of cases.

In addition, the applicant must demonstrate a commitment to public service and the ability to work well with members of the public, scientific and technical staff, expert and fact witnesses, administrative agencies, and other members of a litigation team. Applicants should also describe any experience with electronic discovery and trial preparation platforms.

Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York State and be admitted to practice law in New York State. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that attorneys in the OAG be citizens of the United States. A two (2) year commitment upon being hired is a condition of employment.

Duties Description The Environmental Protection Bureau in the New York State Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking an experienced litigator for its Albany office. This position would involve representing the State on energy, environmental, and public health matters in litigation before federal and state courts, as well as administrative agencies (e.g., Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, U.S. Department of the Interior, NYS Public Service Commission).

Additional Comments Salary to be determined commensurate with experience.
