Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trades-worker or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course.

Duties Description Maintenance Assistants perform routine, repetitive maintenance, installation, and repair tasks in one or a combination of the mechanical, building construction, motor equipment, and electrical trades. Incumbents may also perform journey level activities, under supervision or after receiving detailed instructions, to learn and perfect their skills; operate heavy equipment such as trucks, tractors, front end loaders, etc.; operate light self-propelled equipment such as power mowers, chain saws, power saws, etc.; perform a variety of tasks utilizing power and manual hand tools including but not limited to saws, hammers, drills, sanders, etc.; possess ability to perform a variety of construction trades including but not limited to masonry, carpentry, and electrical. Other responsibilities include operating equipment in the process of maintaining and rehabilitating the Department’s infrastructure, including 14 facilities and associated assets. Programs served include 4 public campgrounds, Five Rivers Education Complex, Marine Resource Nutten Hook areas, Masters Barn site, environmental remediation sites and Region 4 Headquarters.

Additional Comments Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in remote areas and adverse weather conditions. Travel and overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 75 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications: chain saw certification with CPR/AED/First Aid training; supervision experience.

This is a temporary position with a duration of 5/1/18 through 3/31/19.
