Minimum Qualifications Must be in title or on the Civil Service eligible list for this location or be eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 in a designated title determined by the New York State Department of Civil Service. Must be currently certified by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
For Provisional Appointment:
Health Information Management Technician 1 is a continuous recruitment examination. Candidates who are not on the eligible list may apply for this position and if appointed, will receive a temporary appointment. Candidates who have not submitted a New York State Application (https://www.cs.ny.gov/extdocs/pdf/nysapp.pdf) to the Department of Civil Service for scoring must complete the application and submit the application to the Department of Civil Service.
The minimum qualification for a Health Information Management Technician 1 is certification by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
Candidates who receive a temporary appointment must receive a score that is reachable on the resulting eligible list before they can be permanently appointed. Candidates who are found not qualified, or who do not receive a reachable score, may not be retained.
Duties Description The HIM Tech 1 will perform professional assignments that require specific credentials in the area of Health Information Management (HIM). This staff will assist with the upcoming EHR; train staff in the procedures related to HIM functions and the EHR programs and act as liaison to solving programming problems. This also includes staff assignments, medical records review, training, interpretation of policy and procedure, problem solving, staff evaluation, medical records reports, and adherence to medical records accreditation standards. This person will also assist with assuring the records and information of the individuals we serve are received and maintained per laws regulation and procedures required by OPWDD, Medicare, Medicaid, and Mental Hygiene law. This person will also assist with proper handling, including response within required time frames, of correspondence requests which includes Subpoenas, Court Orders, Jonathan’s Law, Justice Center, OIIA, Individual and Family requests.
