Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law. If a viable list does not exist a provisional appointment may be made. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for permanent appointment to the position.
In order to be considered for provisional appointment:
PROMOTIONAL: you must be a qualified employee of New York and have one year of permanent competitive, non-competitive as an Engineering Geologist, Engineering Materials Analyst, Environmental Engineering Technician 2, Junior Engineer, Senior Drafting Technician (all parenthetic), Senior Engineering Technician, or Senior Engineering Technician (Soils) .
OPEN COMPETITIVE:
Either 1. FOUR years of experience assisting in engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, materials laboratory technology, drafting or surveying, AND graduation from high school or possession of a diploma issued by a recognized educational authority;
Or 2. a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, physical science, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, landscape architecture, environmental technology, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, or electronics;
Or 3. an associate’s degree in mathematics, physical science, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, landscape architecture, environmental technology, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, or electronics AND TWO years of experience listed above in #1;
Or 4. a certificate in CAD/CAM, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, or electronics** issued by a regionally accredited college or university and TWO years of experience listed above in #1.
** Certificates from Trade or Technical Schools will be accepted only if they are institutions that are regionally accredited or recognized by the NYS Department of Education as following acceptable educational practices.
Duties Description The Region 10 Design Group anticipates filling a PET position. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to any of the following tasks:
conduct field surveys of State property lines, hydrographic, topographic and engineering surveys.
make sketches and search titles and old records, deeds and filed plats
make survey computations and maintain survey records
Develop ROW maps and plans using Department software
Supervise a small survey party
Respond to incoming FOIL requests
Support higher level Engineers in the development of plans and other written materials including specifications and estimates for all types of highway related projects
Perform or assist with field work, data collection and engineering calculations as necessary for the design of highways and related appurtenances
Proof read written material and check computations
Assist at plan reviews, meetings, etc. regarding projects under design
Assist in making prints, copies, plans, reports, etc.
prepare traffic control plans
perform drainage calculations and system design
perform field inspection/testing (soils)
perform grading and utility design
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency services
