Minimum Qualifications At least two years of college study in biology, ecology, natural resource management, or a related field; fieldwork experience is required and experience working with and identification of local flora and fauna is preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ArcGIS is preferred.

Duties Description Work on multiple components of Natural Resource Stewardship Projects, including, but not limited to:
1. Field work (e.g., assist with the implementation of Natural Resource Stewardship projects (e.g., habitat management, invasive species removal, native plantings, flora/fauna and other field surveys, wildlife management activities such as Canada goose and deer management); assist with project review; other field related activities.
2. Office related duties (e.g., organize daily activities and plan weekly schedules; report progress by the end of each week to supervisor; permit writing/review/issuance (e.g., State Parks Scientific Research Permits, regulatory permits from other state/federal agencies); writing/distributing project Request for Proposals (RFP)/Request for Quotes (RFQ); writing project reports; interfacing with contractors; interfacing with Park Managers and other park staff; other office related activities.

Additional Comments Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Ability to work independently with minimal oversight, as well as working as a team member;
2. Ability to work under varied weather conditions and environments (wetlands, steep uplands), wearing waders, carrying moderately heavy gear and exposure to poison-ivy, ticks and mosquitoes.
3. Ability to use a map, compass, and GPS;
4. Ability to use hand tools and operate machinery;
5. Ability to work both in the field and the office with agency staff/public. Work may involve coordination with facility managers, environmental educators and other agencies such as NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and others;
6. Possess excellent communication skills and be meticulous in the collection and handling of data, both electronically and on paper.
7. Office work will include data entry and analysis, research and writing. Working with past and current data in Microsoft Office and preferably ArcGIS
8. Must possess a valid driver’s license by date of appointment as a term and condition of employment.
